How To Propose a Presentation for ESASD

1) Check your e-mail for notices regarding ESASD Staff Development.

Usually, presenters are sought to teach summer presentations in June, July, and August.  Sometimes, the district may need presenters between January through June, such as the annual Spring Into Technology event held in April.  Teachers may be asked to present presentations at in-services as well.

Teachers may propose as many presentations as they like, scheduling according to what the district requires.

2) Complete and return the ESASD Presentation Proposal Form.

When you complete the presentation proposal form, you’ll need to supply the following information:

Title, requested date(s), estimated presentation time*, preferred starting time, target audience, maximum number of participants (minimum is 10 or presentation is canceled), site of presentation, equipment needed, program goals, and program description for brochure.

At the bottom of the form, you have to choose between monetary compensation or Alternative Professional Development Hours.

*Estimated presentation time is important because it determines your monetary compensation.   See below:

1.0 hour =$125.00

1.5 hours=$150.00

2.0 hours=$175.00

2.5 hours=$200.00

3.0 hours=$225.00

3.5 hours=$250.00

4.0 hours=$275.00

4.5 hours=$300.00

5.0 hours=$325.00

6.0 hours=$350.00

You’ll need to send all of your completed presentation proposal forms to Jessica Newberry, secretary for John Burrus (ESASD Director of Staff Development).

Before submitting the form(s), you are strongly advised to make and keep copies for your records.

3) Wait for approval and complete and return your contract.

If your presentation(s) is/are approved, you will be sent a contract(s) to submit.  Compare the information on your proposal form and the contract for accuracy.  If all is well, sign and return it/them.

John Burrus will ensure that the presentation will be listed in the board minutes for board member approval.  If they disapprove, the presentation will not occur.  In order for you to get your presentation listed in a timely

manner, submit your proposal early in the month.  Board meetings are held the last Monday of every month, but the board minutes are published at least a week and a half before.

4) Make sure your class(es) is/are accurately listed and “advertise” your presentation(s)

John Burrus will submit your presentation for teachers to sign-up on  HYPERLINK "http://www.cpetracker.org" www.cpetracker.org In addition, it would be helpful for you to create a

sign-up sheet with all important details for teachers in your building and place notice in a school bulletin or on a faculty lounge bulletin board.  You are also able to e-mail your information to Terry Lazor and request that she forward it to all teachers to invite them to your presentation.  Make sure you tell potential attendees to e-mail you or sign up on CPE Tracker so the limit of how many attendees you want is not exceeded.

5) As your presentation date(s) approach, stay in contact with John Burrus to find out if your presentation(s) have sufficient enrollment.

ESASD requires at least ten sign-ups to allow a presentation to be held.

John Burrus and/or Jessica Newberry will create a sign-in sheet with all

important details for each of your presentations.  They will e-mail the sign-in sheet(s) to you.  After your presentation is finished, interoffice mail your form to John Burrus at Smithfield Elementary as soon as possible.

6) Within two weeks, you should get a carbon copy of your completed contract through interoffice mail.  This means your payment should appear in your next check.  If this does not occur, contact John Burrus.

***Please note – unless you are in a specialized academic “coach” position whose job requirements differ from those of regular teachers, an administrator cannot compel you to create and/or (co-)host a presentation.

If an administrator requests that you create and/or (co-)host a presentation, be sure to verify how long the presentation will be and what your compensation will be for preparing and implementing the presentation.  Work with your administrator to follow the aforementioned steps to make your presentation a success.
