II.Approval of last meeting’s minutes – First: Paul Kernan, Second: Jill Greenwood.
III.President’s Remarks:
a.Arlene Kirkwood passed away. Words cannot express what Arlene meant to all of us not only as colleague but also as such an active member of our Association as treasurer and secretary. There is no doubt that she will be greatly missed. After further words of remembrance, we observed a moment of silence.
b.PSEA has recommended Rob McCord as a democratic candidate for Senator. He is looking to restore the funding to education in one year and not cut or touch our pension system.
c.The letter writing campaign was a success. Over 29,000 letters were written.
d.SLO’s are worth 35% of the teacher evaluation next year. Each building should have completed a training by now.
e.Differentiated Supervision – you can do two years out of the three year cycle.
f.Furloughs – so far only PV is the only school with announced furloughs.
IV.Reports:
a.PACE: Jen Agolino – gave a handout showing why PSEA has recommended Rob McCord.
b.Membership: Scott Hnasko – (absent) as of 4/15/14 total membership is 623.
c.Treasurer: Wayne Carson – Current balance $44,442.64.
d.Communications: Dan Phillips – (absent) Elementary survey results: only 40 teachers responded to the survey.
V.Old Business: none
VI.New Business:
a.MOU – Paul Kernan presented the MOU: A change in contract language to state unused sick days payment will be paid as a one lump sum payment into a 403b.
i.Motion made and passed 14-0 to approve the addendum to the contract as stated. First: Joe Formica, Second: Nadia Worbij.
b.Joe Formica – He would like to schedule a dinner meeting with the negotiation team and our new uniserve rep Mike Mills, possibly before the summer break.
c.School Calendar – The Board set the calendar for next year based on transportation and cost effectiveness.
